Legit ways to earn naira online, and how to spot scams

By the Korareel team · Updated

For every real way to earn online in Nigeria there seem to be ten fake ones. Most scams follow the same patterns, so once you know them you can check any "opportunity", including ours, in five minutes.

7 signs it's a scam

  1. You pay first. "Registration", "activation" or "starter pack" fees. Real work pays you.
  2. Returns that are too good: "Earn ₦50,000 daily", "double your money in 7 days".
  3. Most of the money comes from recruiting people, not from doing work.
  4. They ask for your BVN, ATM PIN, OTP or bank password.
  5. Pressure: "Only 10 slots left", "offer ends tonight".
  6. No real company behind it: no website, address, registration or terms, just a WhatsApp number.
  7. You can't withdraw until you pay a "tax" or invite more people.
The 7 warning signs at a glance.

What a real online job looks like

  • You don't pay to start.
  • You're paid for work you can see: clips, edits, designs, writing, tutoring.
  • It's clear how much you earn and when, before you start.
  • Money goes to a bank account in your own name.
  • There are published terms, a privacy policy and a way to contact a real team.

Questions to ask before you join anything

  • Who pays, and why? If you can't answer this, the money is probably coming from new members.
  • What exactly do I do to earn?
  • When and how do I get paid, and what can stop a payment?
  • Can I read the terms? Is there a real email address, not just WhatsApp?
  • Can I find honest reviews from people who've been paid?

Questions people ask

How do I know if an online job in Nigeria is legit?

Real jobs don't charge you to start, pay you for visible work, explain pay before you begin, pay into your own bank account, and publish terms with a real contact. Fees, recruiting and promises of fast money are signs of a scam.

Is Korareel legit?

Korareel is a pay-per-view clipping marketplace launching in Nigeria. Brands fund campaigns upfront, creators never pay anything, and earnings go in naira to a bank account in the creator's own name. Our terms and privacy policy are public.

Should I ever pay to get an online job?

No. A real employer or platform pays you. An 'activation' or 'registration' fee is the most common sign of a scam.
